Couples Photo Session: When is a good time to book a session?

So you’re thinking about booking a couples session? Let’s dive into when it’s time to book your session.

Whether you’re dating, engaged, married (or just straight up in love) a couples photo session is always a great idea. Besides the obvious, engagement photos, when else should you consider hiring a photographer?

If you’re dating: treat it like a date. How fun! You can literally choose any activity you like to do together and have it photographed. Do you love to hike? Bike rides and picnics? Wine tasting and horseback riding? Cozy Oregon beach hangs? Take me along with you and I’ll photograph you just existing together. It’s seriously so fun.

If you’re engaged: engagement photos are pretty much a must have in my mind. Not only do you get gorgeous photos of you and your partner during an exciting phase of your life, but you also get to familiarize yourself with your photographer. Your comfort level in front of the camera will grow exponentially after you’ve grown comfortable with your photographer. It’s just science.

If you’re married: celebrate whatever stage you’re at in your married life with a sweet photo sesh. They are fun and the photos are heirlooms for your family. It’s a win win. Document an anniversary or your first home, or your first pet together.

If you’re just crazy in love: take those photos. As mentioned above – they’re so fun. TBH having the desire to take photos with your partner is enough to justify doing it.

Things to consider when booking a session:

What is the overall vibe you’re hoping to achieve with your couples session? Do you like golden warmth in photos? If so, a sunset session if probably best for you. Do you like cozy and journalistic photos? Maybe an in home session is right for you. Do you and your partner feel really uncomfortable in front of the camera? Give yourselves something to focus on like an activity (think bowling, mini golfing, playing games, cooking etc).
