California Coast Family Session | Oceano Dunes, California

OK this session is a little extra special to me. Not only are these my best friends, these family photos were also taken in the area I grew up (hellllooooo, California Coast). Although Oregon is my home now, this little slice of Coastal heaven will always hold a very special place in my heart. I mean… hello blue skies and giant dunes!

A little about the family

Clay and Lindsey are some of my closest and oldest friends. I met Lindsey right out of high school and we instantly became best friends. I am not exaggerating when I say instantly. We met for green tea fraps and spent the rest of the entire day together. Clay came into the picture shortly after and the rest is history. We have spent our whole adult lives together, navigating all of the highs and lows. Now we both have families and live in different states – but the trips down to California are life giving and something to always look forward to.

About the location

Ok, we’ve established the fact that I was born and raised in California. The ocean, specifically, is my happy place. I love everything about it and anytime I get a chance to shoot at the beach I am all in. Lindsey really wanted a family session on the dunes and it was a no brainer to choose this spot. You can pay a $5 fee and drive right out on the sand. We got pretty lucky with how quiet it was out there and had lots of private space for this session. It’s pretty typical for it to be foggy this time of year in the morning but we ended up pushing back the session a bit and it was FULL ON SUN. A totally different vibe than what we were anticipating but a very cool one. I love the opportunity to shoot in full sun. It creates such a fun look – especially at the beach.
